The evening of Saturday marked a dignified transfer of leadership of the Oakland / San Francisco chapter of the Oduduwa Heritage Organization (OHO). This passing-of-torch event was held at the famous Miliki Restaurant in Oakland .
The long awaited inaugural ceremony was presided over by the outgoing honorable president Idowu Akinleye. In his message to OHO members, he reassured them of his commitment to helping the organization achieve the goal of promoting the culture and heritage, for which our organization stands. He laid emphasis on RESPECT as an essential component in the culture of Yoruba, and encouraged everyone to enhance and promote the culture both from within and externally.
President Idowu Akinleye expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve the organization in that capacity. He went further to thank the outgoing secretary, Mrs. Tayo Thomas, who served diligently for multiple terms. A significant portion of accolade went to past presidents, vice-presidents and other administrators. Among them are; Mr. Fola Dasilva, Mr. Akintola Thomas, Mr. Boye Kujore, to mention a few.
Having worked together as president and vice-president for two consecutive terms, the outgoing president handed over the Staff-of-Authority to the newly elected president Rahmon Momoh, with a vote of confidence in his ability to stir the organization in the right direction. The swearing-in ceremony was officiated by Mr. Mojeed Salam. Other members of the new administration that took oath of office were Vice-president Joseph Adebayo, Mrs. Yemisi Falowo (Financial Secretary), Mrs. Olufunke Odusanya (Treasurer) and Mr. Francis Odo (Communication and Community Outreach Secretary).
In his speech at the inauguration, the president-elect Rahmon Momoh gave thanks to president Idowu Akinleye and all Agba-Akins of OHO. He called for unity among all members and reminded everyone of his election campaign-promise, which are to increase OHO membership, increase cash inflow and youth participation. Other highlights of his message include the establishment of four committees (Admin & Compliance; Finance & Fundraising; Programming & Collaboration; and Press Publicity and Promotion).
His acknowledgement of outstanding contribution to OHO in their respective offices went to Mrs. Temitope Thomas, Mrs. Eniola Jolaoso; Mr. Anthony Jolaoso and Mrs. Bukky Oyebade.
The presentation of a well crafted resolution, accentuated with the national Green-White-Green stripe went to the outgoing president Idowu Akinleye for outstanding leadership efforts.
Overall, the atmosphere was friendly and enjoyable for everyone. Much of the credit for making this event a successful one goes to Mr. Dapo Odunlami, Mr. Fola Dasilva and Mr. Gbenga Odusanya.
